Privacy Policy — The Edition
Last Updated: July 2026
At The Edition ("we," "us," or "our"), we respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you visit our website or use our application.
1. Information We Collect
We collect only the information necessary to provide our service:
- Account Information: When you sign up, we collect your email address and authentication credentials.
- Usage Data: We collect information on the topics you select (e.g., Defense AI, Crypto) and the reports you generate to personalize your feed.
- Technical Data: We may collect standard log data such as IP address, browser type, and device information to ensure the security and performance of our app.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your data for the following purposes:
- To create and manage your account.
- To generate personalized daily briefings and deep-dive reports.
- To maintain and improve the performance of our application.
- To communicate with you regarding service updates or security alerts.
3. Third-Party Service Providers (Our Tech Stack)
To provide our advanced AI-curated briefings, we utilize a specific set of third-party services. It is important to understand how data flows between these services:
A. Data Storage & Authentication
Supabase: We use Supabase as our backend-as-a-service provider.
- What they handle: Your user account data (email, password hashes) and your personalized preferences are stored securely in Supabase's database. Supabase complies with industry-standard security protocols.
B. Search & Intelligence (Data Processing)
We use search engines to find relevant news articles based on your selected topics.
- Tavily: This service is used strictly for web search and data retrieval when you open a Deep Dive report.
- Data Flow: We send anonymized search queries (e.g., "latest semiconductor news") to this service. We do not send it your personal information (such as your email or name). It processes the search keywords to return relevant articles.
C. AI Synthesis (Data Processing)
We use Large Language Models (LLMs) to summarize news, generate reports, and answer your follow-up questions.
- Google (Gemini): We use Gemini to synthesize your daily briefings and Deep Dive reports. Gemini may also use Google Search internally to verify facts before generating a report.
- Perplexity: We use Perplexity to answer the follow-up questions you ask about a story. Because Perplexity searches the web to answer, the text of your question is sent to Perplexity along with brief background context about the story.
- Data Flow: Depending on the feature you use, these APIs may process relevant information, topic keywords, questions, and limited context required to generate the requested response.
- Privacy Protection: We do not share your personal account details (email, name) with Google or Perplexity. The information sent to them is strictly limited to what is necessary to provide the requested response.
D. Payment Processing (Data Processing)
We use Apple and RevenueCat to process and manage your subscription.
- Apple: Your subscription payment itself is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see or store your payment details (card number, billing address). This data is governed by Apple's own privacy policy: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/
- RevenueCat: We use RevenueCat to keep your subscription status in sync across devices and to determine which features are unlocked on your account. RevenueCat receives your app-assigned user ID, your Apple purchase receipt, and basic device information (device type, operating system) — never your name, email, or payment details. RevenueCat acts as a data processor on our behalf; their privacy policy is here: https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy/
4. Data Security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. However, please note that no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure.
5. Data Retention
We retain your personal information only for as long as is necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this Privacy Policy. You may request the deletion of your account and associated data at any time.
6. Your Rights
Depending on your location (e.g., under GDPR or CCPA), you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Request correction of inaccurate data.
- Request deletion of your data ("Right to be forgotten").
- Withdraw consent for data processing.
